Cadence

Rooted in the timeless elegance of natural materials, Cadence is a new wallpaper collection designed by Athena Calderone for Calico Wallpaper. Conceived for Athena’s Tribeca apartment, the designs draw inspiration from the quiet poetry of aged materials—specifically, the fine, translucent textures found in natural hides.

To capture this nuanced character, both teams collaborated closely with a skilled French artisan and decorative painter whose subtle hand-rendered artwork was layered with high-resolution scans of authentic textures. This process allowed for a unique interplay of organic surface and artistry, evoking depth, warmth, and the imperfections that make the inspiration so compelling.

Faint seam lines are carefully embedded into the design, suggesting historical paneling while never overwhelming the composition. The result is a refined, ethereal wallcovering—at once tactile and minimal, ancient and modern—that transforms walls into softly glowing surfaces. Each application is imbued with a sense of timeless reverence, shaped by a profound history of craftsmanship.

The collection will make its debut at Athena’s new Atelier, and will be featured in Athena’s Tribeca apartment, where its understated beauty forms a serene, grounding backdrop to her layered interior world. It reflects a shared passion for texture, craftsmanship, and atmosphere, inviting a sense of calm sophistication into any space.
